Summer Reading

Aug 04, 2024

I listened (and then read) two books about client care and service that I can't recommend highly enough.  The first - Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara was written by one of the famed restauranteurs who created the #1 restaurant in the world - Eleven Madison Park. I saw this book mentioned in an article related to the Netflix "The Bear" show (haven't seen it, though) and it's an absolute inspiring delight. The restaurant ("EMP" for short) even hired a handful of "Dream Weavers" (official title) that would help their guests' dreams come true.

The second book, Excellence Wins, is by Horst Schulze, who helped develop the Ritz-Carlton Hotel group into what it is today. "Ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen" - a saying he coined - is absolutely brilliant. How he trained and inspired the employees at the Ritz-Carlton are lessons that we all - in any industry - can learn more about.

Not all initiatives in the hospitality industry can translate into the legal industry, of course. But there are takeaways here about how we can treat our colleagues and our clients that elevate everything we do.
