Digital Summit & the Ritz Carlton

community media Sep 29, 2024

I appreciated being invited to speak at the Digital Summit that took place in Philadelphia (they happen all over the country).

The fireside chat was titled: "Building Brands and Sparking Stories" and was put together by the terrific video platform PlayPlay, of which I am a huge fan and use at my law firm. Brittany Du Bois (pictured here) hosted gorgeously and I was honored to be invited and asked to share some of my experience and advice to the talented marketing professionals in attendance.

Our audience was a wonderful blend of different kinds of professionals - some that had their own businesses, up to people working for very large companies.

A main theme I spoke about is how words create our worlds. The language we use to talk about what we do, how we care about our clients, and how we are of service - and the passion we bring t our work - is the secret to really impactful marketing.

I walked the audience through a branding exercise I use with everyone I coach, which has them identifying three words that they think their brand is NOW and three words they want their brand to be. It could be their company brand - or even their personal brand. The words we use in how we discuss ourselves - and who we aspire to become - is a key part of how we can create plans how to get there.

One example I gave during the program was from a video put together at the hotel where I stayed the evening before (the Ritz Carlton). The video had beautiful imagery from its properties around the world, and it repeated a refrain throughout" "What is [*insert word here] is what will last".  The words it used alongside the beautiful images were wonderful and I repeat them here (my favorites I put in bold):

Exceptional

Sophisticated

Enlivening

Genuine

Thoughtful

Delightful

Crafted

Enchanting

Invigorating

Passionate

Joyful

Shared

The video then concluded with a wonderful twist on what you might expect from a hotel: "Let us stay with you."

What words inspire you?
